Ole Miss football player dies in Tennessee shooting, four others hurt

In Memphis, Tennessee, a tragic incident resulted in the death of a freshman football player from the University of Mississippi. The shooting occurred late Saturday night outside a residence in Cordova, and four others were also shot.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported shortly after 10 PM. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found one individual already suffering from gunshot wounds. This person, identified as 18-year-old Corey Adams from New Orleans, was pronounced dead on-site.

Meanwhile, four other men were taken to a local hospital by private vehicles. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening. Authorities are currently investigating the shooting and searching for suspects.

Witnesses recounted the chaotic atmosphere following the shooting. One man, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the scene outside as a pool party gone wrong, with vehicles lining the street. He recalled hearing a loud gunshot that startled him while he was just watching TV at home. His immediate reaction was to warn his kids to stay low and turn off the lights, revealing the palpable fear that enveloped the neighborhood.

By the time law enforcement arrived, many partygoers had fled the scene. Shell casings were scattered in the area, and at least one nearby home was hit by bullets. This investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing, and they encourage anyone with information to reach out to Crimestoppers.

As for Corey Adams, he was planning to play on the soccer team at Ole Miss and was recognized as a promising defensive lineman. The university expressed its condolences in a statement, stating that they were heartbroken over his passing and their thoughts were with his family and loved ones during this tough time.

A former coach, Edna Carl Cougars, shared his grief on social media, emphasizing that Adams was much more than just an athlete; he was a beloved friend and role model. The community is grappling with the shock of this loss, questioning how such a tragedy could occur.
