Ole Miss gives Lane Kiffin a deadline to decide on his coaching future amid ongoing rumors

Lane Kiffin Faces Decision Deadline

The situation surrounding Lane Kiffin’s coaching future has taken a new turn with a looming deadline.

Ole Miss has issued an “ultimatum” regarding Kiffin, who has been at the helm since 2020 and is a candidate for positions at LSU and Florida. Reports suggest that he must make a decision about his future with the Rebels before the Egg Bowl on November 28, as noted by various sources.

After the recent game, Kiffin was asked about his plans, but he avoided giving a firm commitment to Ole Miss, which currently boasts a record of 10-1 and ranks No. 5 in the AP polls.

Interestingly, there were reports that both LSU and Florida State had arranged private flights for Kiffin’s family to visit their campuses over the weekend, although he, reportedly, did not join them.

Moreover, it appears that Kiffin’s ex-wife, Leila, who he shares three children with and has reconciled with since their 2016 divorce, has also been seen in the area.

“I really enjoy what we’re doing here,” Kiffin commented after Ole Miss’s victory over Florida. Fans from Florida were vocally supportive, suggesting they would welcome him should he consider the Florida job. “Today was fantastic. It wouldn’t be right to discuss my future now, given how well the players performed. There’s so much happening here, and I truly love it.”

Both Florida State and LSU recently had coaching vacancies after changes were made in October. The head coach for Florida was let go following a surprising win that took their record to 3-4, while LSU’s coach was dismissed a week later after a hefty loss to Texas A&M.

As the deadline for Kiffin approaches, he must decide about his future before the Rebels’ last regular-season game, especially since they will have a bye this weekend before facing Mississippi State the following week.

What remains unclear is what consequences Kiffin may face if he fails to announce his decision by the Egg Bowl.

Kiffin, now 50, began his head coaching career back in 2007 with the Raiders. He has also coached at Tennessee, USC, and Florida Atlantic before returning to Ole Miss before the 2020 season.

After a mixed first year with a 5-5 record, Kiffin has notched at least 10 wins for the Rebels in four out of the last five seasons. If they can secure victories against Mississippi State and their opponents in the SEC Championship, they might be in line for a top-four seed in the College Football Playoff.

However, before any of those postseason matches can unfold, Kiffin needs to clarify his professional future, which is becoming increasingly uncertain.
