Olivia Dunne reveals how she and boyfriend Paul Skenes found out about Pirates call up

Olivia Dunn was overjoyed for her boyfriend, Paul Skeens, as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ top prospect was called up to the big leagues after less than a year in the minors.

Skeens got the call Wednesday after underwhelming in his first few starts at Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates selected Skeens with the first pick in last year’s MLB draft.

Dunn and Skeens revealed they were a couple late last year, but the LSU gymnast has teased in recent days that Dunn might get a call-up. She posted a video on TikTok about how she found out he was being called up to a major league mound.

“POV: We both wake up from our nap and find out he’s in MLB,” she captioned her clip with a screencap.

“…Let’s go,” she added on her Instagram Story.

He started Monday against the Buffalo Bisons, but things didn’t go as planned. Skeens allowed Will Robertson his first home run of the year, but ultimately retired after striking out four batters and throwing 66 pitches.

Still, the Pirates like what they see.

“He’s pretty much checked every box since the season started and he’s responded incredibly well,” Pirates GM Ben Cherington told Audacity’s 93.7 “The Fan” on Sunday. Ta.

Skeens has dominated his rivals in Triple-A, posting a 0.99 ERA in his first seven starts despite Monday’s troubles.

Skeens allowed just 17 hits in 27.1 innings with three earned runs. He struck out 45 batters and walked eight.

In addition to being Skeen’s top prospect for the Pirates, MLB.com ranks him the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball after going 13-2 in the College World Series with LSU in 2023. It is attached. He was drafted No. 1 overall by the Pirates and when he signed his first contract, the Pirates gave him a record signing bonus of $9.2 million.

So Pirates fans aren’t the only ones looking forward to May 11th at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The entire baseball world will be watching to see how Skeens will perform on the biggest stage in sports.
