Potential Comeback for Olivia Nuzzi at Vanity Fair

Olivia Nuzzi, a political journalist whose career faced turmoil due to her private relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., might be making a notable return at Vanity Fair.

Last year, Nuzzi, 31, departed from a New York magazine after it was revealed that she had been involved in a year-long, intimate relationship with Kennedy. This included what some sources described as “incredible” FaceTime encounters, flirtatious messages, and declarations of love, all while she was covering his independent presidential campaign.

The situation led to her exile after the magazine discovered that she breached ethics by not disclosing the relationship, though the report itself was deemed unbiased.

Nuzzi is currently in conversations regarding a position with Vanity Fair, under the guidance of the new editor, Mark Guiducci. It seems he is seeking bold new additions to the magazine.

Guiducci, who took over Vanity Fair this summer, has already signaled an interest in hiring high-profile journalists. He has stirred some controversy within the staff regarding potential cover stories, including one featuring Melania Trump, as part of a broader strategy to revitalize the brand.

He has made outreach not just to Nuzzi, but also to notable figures like Matt Belloni of Puck and journalists from the Los Angeles Times.

The story surrounding Nuzzi took a dramatic turn in October 2024, when hints about her connection to Kennedy prompted her temporary leave from the magazine. Eventually, she and the publication mutually decided to part ways.

The fallout led to considerable backlash in the industry, particularly after private messages were leaked, revealing a deeper emotional bond than initially understood.

Meanwhile, Nuzzi is navigating a legal dispute with her ex-fiance, Ryan Lizza, who is a Washington correspondent for Politico. Their engagement ended around the same time the revelations about her relationship emerged, though the timelines for both have not been publicly clarified. Lizza later left Politico, citing dissatisfaction with the editorial direction amid the scandal.

His departure, however, wasn’t without issues, as Politico accused him of breaching a non-disclosure agreement, leading to a contentious exit.

Once regarded as one of the sharpest young voices in political journalism, Nuzzi found herself largely out of the limelight since the scandal. Yet, recent reports indicate she may be quietly preparing for a revival, with Vanity Fair potentially leading the charge.
