Bobsled Team’s Apartment Burglarized Ahead of Olympic Training
Recently, an apartment that served as lodging for the Israeli bobsled team and other athletes preparing for the Winter Olympics in Italy was broken into. AJ Edelman, a bobsled pilot and former Olympic skeleton athlete, shared details on social media regarding the incident. He mentioned that several items were stolen, including passports and possessions valued at “several thousand dollars.”
“What an amazing season,” he remarked in his post, perhaps trying to focus on the positive despite the situation.
Edelman explained that the team chose to continue their training even after the investigation into the burglary had begun. He described their swift return to practice as “a great example of how we move forward in difficult circumstances.”
“This is a terrible violation,” he said. “Suitcases, shoes, equipment, and passports were stolen, yet the boys returned to training immediately.” Edelman expressed his belief that the team embodies the spirit of Israel, highlighting their resilience.
Though he wasn’t present at the scene, Edelman indicated that the team coach, Itamar Splinz, was on-site. However, it remains uncertain whether Splinz witnessed the robbery unfold.
The Israeli Olympic Committee hasn’t provided any immediate comments. It’s worth noting that this marks the first time Israel will participate in the bobsled event at the Olympics. The team secured its place after Great Britain opted not to use one of the two allocated spots for the Milan-Cortina Games.
The bobsled team has chosen the name “Shur Running” for the Olympics. They’ve even received some light-hearted social media attention, with some referring to them as “shullannings” and others celebrating them as “the team that made it happen.” It’s an exciting moment for Israeli athletics as they forge ahead.
Official bobsled training is set to commence in Cortina d’Ampezzo next Thursday.
