Figure skater Alisa Liu, preparing for the 2025 World Championship, has decided to abandon her program music due to an ongoing investigation into a 15-year-old girl who was found deceased in a car associated with singer D4VD.
Liu, 20, mentioned in an Instagram post, “As many people know, I recently debuted a new short program for the ’25-’26 season.” She made the announcement on Wednesday.
In response to the recent events, Liu stated, “My team and I are confidently pursuing a different direction that aligns with my values and overall spirit.” She expressed a desire to brainstorm new ideas while assuring her audience that there’s no rush in her creative process. She might still use some familiar elements in her programs and appreciates the support from her fans.
Based in Oakland, California, Liu had originally intended to skate “This Is How It Feels,” collaborating with D4VD and Icelandic artist Laufey as part of her program leading up to the Milan Winter Olympics in 2026.
Her decision to remove the song has received praise from fans, with one commenter expressing gratitude for standing up for what is right.
The deceased teenager, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, was found over two weeks ago in the trunk of a Tesla in a Hollywood Hills reservoir, a vehicle registered to David Anthony Burke, known as D4VD.
Rivas had gone missing in 2024, with her mother disappearing from Lake Elsinore, California, as reported to TMZ.
Authorities were alerted to the vehicle due to a “foul smell” emanating from it, eventually leading to the discovery of her body, which was identified just one day after her 15th birthday. Given the condition of her remains, it is believed she was 14 at the time of her death, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Organizers of a fundraising effort noted, “Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week.” They shared that she was a cherished daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.
The teenager’s remains have now been returned to her family for funeral arrangements, as reported by TMZ.
While law enforcement officials have yet to name Burke, 20, as a suspect, they have searched his Hollywood Hills residence. Burke has subsequently canceled the remainder of his world tour following the unexpected investigation.
