The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony had no shortage of style, but arguably the best moment was when French metal band Gojira performed like they’d stepped straight out of the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. Mad MaxIt’s exactly like a screaming, headless Marie Antoinette.
There’s nothing else to say: it was one of the most amazing, incredible, slightly grotesque, bizarre, perfect moments we have ever witnessed. Any The Opening Ceremony. I don’t think anyone had Gojira’s performance on their bingo card, but there’s no denying that they are an icon of French music, and now they are the first heavy metal band to perform at the Opening Ceremony.
Formed in 1996, the band’s name was “Godzilla” before adopting a new spelling. The band are global heavy metal icons, having won numerous awards over their almost 30-year career, while Gojira’s Mario Duplantier is widely regarded as one of the greatest metal drummers of all time.
I’m going to have to watch this at least 20 more times because I can’t believe this happened.
