The event was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday morning but will now take place on Wednesday if tests show contamination is at “acceptable levels”.

The World Triathlon Organization released a statement on Twitter explaining the situation.

“Unfortunately, weather events beyond our control, such as the rains that fell in Paris on 26 and 27 July, could change the water quality and force us to reschedule the event for health reasons,” it said.

The question of whether Paris’ rivers are clean enough for Olympic swimmers to compete safely has been closely watched by event organizers and city authorities.

Swimming in the Seine has been banned since 1923, and efforts to make the river swimmable are costing $1.5 billion. These efforts include building huge reservoirs to capture large amounts of stormwater and prevent wastewater from flowing into the river, upgrading sewer infrastructure, and upgrading wastewater treatment plants.

However, despite the costly repairs, the heavy rains on the 26thNumber And 27Number Following the flooding in July, water quality tests showed levels of E. coli exceeded acceptable limits.

Before the postponement was announced, event organizers had expressed confidence that sunny weather and high temperatures would keep bacteria levels within acceptable limits, but that was not the case.

Contingency plans have been drawn up for August 2nd.and.

“It’s unfortunate that there are negative aspects to the postponement,” said U.S. triathlete Seth Ryder, “but I’m hopeful that the triathlon can take place and that it will be a childhood dream come true.”

If the situation on the Seine does not improve, the swimming portion of the event will be cancelled entirely and triathletes will only be able to compete in the cycling and running events.

“This is just another situation in competition,” World Triathlon Association president Marisol Casado said.
