Indiana Hoosiers Narrow Victory Over Penn State
The Indiana Hoosiers, currently ranked second, managed to pull off a nail-biting 27-24 win against Penn State on Saturday. The game was sealed with a late touchdown pass from Fernando Mendoza to Omar Cooper Jr., who made an impressive catch and toe tap with just 36 seconds remaining.
This victory marks the Hoosiers’ continued success this season, pushing their record to 10-0 overall and 7-0 within the Big Ten Conference.
Fans erupted on social media following the dramatic touchdown. Indiana’s head coach, Curt Cinetti, expressed his disbelief, stating, “It was the most improbable win I’ve ever been a part of. And there was no better place to do that.”
Penn State, clawing back from a 13-point deficit in the third quarter, almost turned the tide with Nicholas Singleton’s touchdown catch that gave them a brief lead at 24-20.
Playing in front of a roaring crowd of 107,000 in State College, the Hoosiers managed to quiet the home fans. Historically, the Nittany Lions had dominated this matchup, boasting a 25-2 record in head-to-head games, with all previous home games resulting in wins for them.
Mendoza completed 19 of 30 passes for 218 yards, adding a touchdown pass and one interception to his stats, along with a rushing touchdown. Roman Hemby led the Hoosiers in rushing, gaining 55 yards on 12 carries. Additionally, Kaylon Black contributed with a touchdown.
Charlie Becker was a standout receiver for Indiana, catching seven passes for 118 yards, while Cooper finished with six catches for 32 yards and that crucial touchdown.
On the other side, the struggling Nittany Lions now sit at a disappointing 3-6 this season, failing to secure a win in their six conference matchups.
Penn State’s quarterback, Ethan Grankmeier, had a solid day as well, finishing with 22 completions out of 31 attempts, totaling 219 yards and one touchdown along with an interception. Singleton stood out for Penn State too, leading the team with two rushing touchdowns and 71 yards on 10 carries.
