An explosion in Scotland has destroyed a block of flats, killing one man and injuring several others.
Fire and emergency services were called to Alloa at around 6pm following reports of an explosion at a block of flats.
A man who was inside the Kelly Road property when the explosion occurred was killed in the explosion.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his official identity has not been released.
Three other people living in the same block of flats were taken to Forth Valley Royal Infirmary for treatment of minor injuries.
Sergeant Neil Drummond said: “We are still working to establish the full circumstances of what happened at this property, but we can confirm that one man has died.”
“Investigations are ongoing to confirm his identity and provide his next of kin with any assistance they may require.
“We would like to thank the local community for their continued cooperation and support of our investigation and will provide further information in due course.”
After the explosion, police and emergency services closed off numerous roads to allow multiple agencies to respond.
Police Scotland said the lockdown was being lifted after the “serious incident” was brought under control just before midnight.
However, further utility work may be required, which may result in additional closures.
Alloa Town Hall has been opened as a rest center for residents of other apartment buildings as gas and electricity works are carried out.
Police Scotland said residents would be offered alternative accommodation for the night if they were unable to return to their homes.
