One person was reportedly injured after a Frontier Airlines jet was evacuated at Charlotte Douglas International Airport due to a “strong odor.”
The incident occurred as Flight 1759 was scheduled to depart for Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday night.
“Yesterday evening, during the check-in process on Flight 1759 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a strong odor was detected throughout the aircraft. As a precautionary measure, the captain issued an evacuation order,” Frontier Airlines said in a statement to FOX Business. He spoke at
“Passengers exited the aircraft via both the jet bridge and the evacuation slide. Initial reports indicate that no visible smoke or fire was observed,” the airline added. “All passengers will be re-accommodated on alternative flights.”
The person evacuated from the plane suffered minor injuries in the fall and was taken to a local medical facility, Queen City News reported.
One passenger told Queen City News that he first noticed a strange odor on board the Airbus A321neo just before lights out.
Frontier Airlines also noted that there were 226 passengers on board the plane, and said, “We express our sincere apologies and concern to those affected and are investigating the cause of the accident.” .
The Federal Aviation Administration told FOX Business that a flight attendant “reported the smell of smoke on board the aircraft,” and said it would investigate the incident.
