Fathers are protectors and we honor them today. On the basketball court, teammates are protectors and one of them finally defended Caitlin Clark.
The Chicago Sky once again took on the Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fever on Sunday, and as expected from the Sky, the game was intense from the beginning. In the first quarter, Clark drove to the basket and was fouled by Chicago’s Dana Evans and contacted by Chennedy Carter.
Nothing unusual, right? No, not at first. But what’s different about this play is that Christy Wallace, a guard on Clark’s team, actually came in to guard her.

Even more refreshing was the way Clark’s other teammates mocked Wallace after he was placed between Clark and Evans. In fact, that’s how it was supposed to work.
Clark has been the victim of repeated hard fouls throughout her rookie season. But no one was defending Clark until Sunday. The actions of Wallace and her teammates reinforced the theme of team play that was evident throughout the game. The Fever got solid contributions from Kelsey Mitchell (17 points, 4 rebounds), Aaliyah Boston (19 points, 14 rebounds) and Narisa Smith (15 points, 7 rebounds).
Clark was the team’s leading scorer with 23 points.
