A family gathering in Houston turned tragic when a mass shooting occurred, resulting in one death and 14 injuries. This incident began after an uninvited guest, who was asked to leave, opened fire.
As the chaos unfolded, guests at the party returned fire, leading to a running gunfight that continued until the police arrived.
The situation escalated around 12:50 a.m. when the unidentified individual was removed from the gathering. According to Houston police, this person is believed to have initiated the shooting, prompting attendees to retaliate against the aggressor, as noted by assistant chief Patricia Cantu during a press briefing.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found multiple individuals injured in different areas of the residence, Cantu reported.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while several others were taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the police.
Authorities have detained several individuals, but it was unclear if the shooter was among those in custody as the investigation was still ongoing the following morning, Cantu added.
