One of the three people detained in connection with the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade earlier this week has been released, police said.
The man, a juvenile, was released Thursday after investigators determined he was not involved in the bloody incident at the end of the NFL team’s championship celebration the previous day, a Kansas City police spokesperson confirmed.
As investigators work to determine exactly who was responsible for Wednesday’s shooting that left one woman dead and 22 others injured in a shooting outside the city’s landmark Union Station, other Two minors remain in custody.
“The two boys are currently in custody and we are working with the juvenile prosecutor to review the findings of the investigation and determine the appropriate charges,” the spokesperson said.
“The juvenile court system determines the detention status of all juvenile arrestees.”
Police have not released details about those detained, including their ages.
Police Chief Stacey Graves said Thursday that investigators had “every intention” of pursuing charges.
Graves added that the shooting appeared to be the result of a personal dispute that exploded into violence, rather than a targeted attack.
“This appears to be a dispute between several individuals that ended in gunfire,” Graves said at a news conference.
“Preliminary findings indicate there is no link to terrorism or domestic violent extremism.
The police chief added that several firearms were recovered from the scene following the shooting.
The 22 people injured in the shooting ranged in age from 8 to 47, with half of them under 16. A total of 11 children were rushed to children’s hospitals, nine with gunshot wounds, authorities said.
Meanwhile, Lisa López Gavran, 43, a mother of two, was murdered.
Just before the shots rang out, hundreds of thousands of fans lined the parade route, some climbing trees and street poles or standing on rooftops to watch the players pass by in double-decker buses.
According to police, two fans attending the rally tackled and detained one of the three suspects.
