President Donald Trump had a special message to the people of Greenland in his speech to Congress on Tuesday. In some way, you become an American.
Trump started politely, and promised the Greenlanders to respect their right to choose a political future and “welcome” Americans if they choose to join the United States.
He then added aside with ad-libbed. “In some way, we'll get it.”
Trump was greeted with ocklol in his first term when he first proposed to win Greenland. He repeated that desire in his second term, talking about the potential to harvest Greenland's natural resources and bring prosperity to the people.
More serious analysts point out that Trump's interest in Greenland is a work that has his interest in other strategic points around the world, including South Africa, which controls the Cape of Good Hope. Gaza is located near the Suez Canal in the Eastern Mediterranean.
These points are key to global delivery and navigation for rival navys.
While Greenland is claiming the right to self-determination, Denmark, which now controls the territory, has completely rejected Trump's plan.
But Trump seems convinced that everyone has a price. And he's going to find it.
