According to the recently released survey, few Americans believe that the Democrats have clear leadership. Economist/yougov published this finding on Wednesday.
In a poll carried out over four days, merely 7% of participants indicated that Democrats have a distinct leader, while 66% argued the party does not, and 27% were uncertain.
A slightly greater percentage (16%) of respondents identifying as Democrats believe the party has a clear leader, whereas 62% disagree, and 22% are unsure.
As reported by pollsters, 16% of Democrats or those leaning that way – about 115 individuals – mentioned specific names.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris leads the list, with 25 out of 90 respondents identifying her as a recognizable leader. House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) received 16 mentions, followed closely by Senate minority leaders Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), each with 14 mentions.
Additionally, seven respondents named Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), five cited Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin, four mentioned Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), and the former president was cited as President Biden.
This situation arises as Democrats face criticism for not having a coherent messaging strategy to oppose the Trump administration’s agenda since he took office in January.
The survey was conducted from March 22-25, involving 1,600 adult participants. The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points.
