Only Time Will Reveal Everything: Trump States DOJ and Congress Are Investigating Ilhan Omar's Finances

Trump Calls for Investigation into Ilhan Omar’s Finances

On Monday, President Donald Trump declared that both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Congress are looking into the financial activities of Democratic Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar. This announcement followed his call for an investigation into her rapidly increasing net worth, which has allegedly soared by millions.

Much of this surge in wealth is linked to her husband, Tim Mynett, whose business dealings have reportedly played a significant role in this financial growth. Reportedly, these ventures include an abandoned winery, a marijuana firm, and a venture capital company. The House Oversight Committee’s legal team is delving into how Omar’s net worth has reached $30 million. It seems that a particular focus is on whether Mynett’s businesses were engaged in any illegal activities.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked, “Additionally, the Department of Justice and Congress are keeping an eye on ‘Congressman Ilhan Omar,’ who left Somalia with nothing and is now said to be worth more than $44 million. Time will tell everything.”

Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Republican James Comer, mentioned earlier this month that the legitimacy of the businesses connected to Mynett is a crucial part of the inquiry. There’s ongoing speculation about possible fraud and misrepresentation concerning Omar’s joint ventures.

Comer expressed confusion, saying, “There are many questions about how my husband has amassed so much wealth over the past two years. It’s impossible.” Meanwhile, while Omar has not openly acknowledged personal ownership in these enterprises, her financial disclosures include assets related to Mynett’s businesses and income from the venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, along with the winery and marijuana company.

Omar’s response to inquiries was to direct the media to her social media presence. She characterized Trump’s actions as “panicking” and suggested he was deflecting from his own issues by attempting to investigate her.

She stated, “Sorry Mr. Trump, your support is collapsing and you’re panicking. You’re so quick to distract from your own failures with lies and conspiracy theories about me. Years of ‘investigation’ has turned up nothing.” Omar has claimed that the narrative about her wealth is categorically false, insisting that she possesses neither millions nor even thousands.

The FBI had previously been made aware of potential irregularities regarding Mynett’s businesses during the Biden administration, but no legal action was taken at that time. Omar, who has no stock investments or owned properties, relies on her legislative salary of $174,000, having fled Somalia during a tumultuous civil war and becoming a U.S. citizen in 2000. She has represented Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District since 2019.

The House Oversight Committee has not yet responded to requests for further comments regarding this ongoing investigation.
