OpenAI is working to fix an issue that caused a large-scale outage of applications, including ChatGPT.
The artificial intelligence (AI) company's statement, posted on social media platform X just after 4pm ET Thursday, said “most” of ChatGPT, API and Sora are down.
Ann error status page indicates that OpenAI identified and began investigating a high error rate issue in ChatGPT, API, and Sora at 2 p.m.

OpenAI said the issue was caused by upstream providers – the companies that connect local internet service providers' networks to the internet.

Two additional updates, at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., state that OpenAI “continues to work on fixing the issue.” [the] problem. “
As of 6:30 p.m., ChatGPT and the API were partially restored and Sora was fully operational.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this matter,” the company wrote. “We have identified the issue and have begun recovery. We hope to have you back as soon as possible.”
Users from all over the world commented on X's disability, with some noting that it had hindered their ability to complete research, school, and work tasks.

An OpenAI spokesperson referred the statement to FOX Business on Thursday, but declined further comment on the outage.
