Oprah Winfrey Marks 72nd Birthday with Intense Cardio Session

Oprah Winfrey recently turned 72 and celebrated in quite a unique style—spending 72 minutes on a hardcore cardio workout. The media icon shared her experience on Instagram, posting a video that captured her completing a challenging fitness routine in her home gym.

“I never thought I’d spend my birthday working out, much less a 72-minute workout!” she wrote alongside the video, showcasing her impressive effort.

As she reflected on her birthday, Winfrey acknowledged the privilege of being able to engage in various exercises, mentioning the treadmill, stationary bike, climber, and ski machine specifically. “The older I get, the more I realize that it’s a privilege to have a body that can use all these machines,” she noted.

She expressed her gratitude to fans who sent birthday wishes, adding a light-hearted touch by suggesting, “Now, let’s go find a book to read!” Donning a white long-sleeved top, navy leggings, and a black headband, she kicked off her session by running on the treadmill.

“Let’s go! This is the beginning!” she enthusiastically shouted, before moving on to the stationary bike where someone off-camera urged her to pedal harder. After about 32 minutes, Winfrey was seen panting on the treadmill as someone filming her checked in.

Despite fatigue, she pressed on, using the climber and then finishing with the ski machine. In a cheerful moment, her gym mates sang “Happy Birthday” as she completed the final minute of her workout. “I don’t even know my name,” she jokingly remarked as she caught her breath.

In a reflective post, Winfrey discussed how turning 72 has changed her perspective over the last decade. She recounted that after getting new knees two summers ago, she decided to incorporate strength training into her regimen. While she humorously remarked that she might not be Olympic-ready like Adele, she feels much stronger now. She encouraged others to try something new as they age, highlighting the importance of maintaining muscle.

Open about her health journey and fluctuating weight, Winfrey revealed that in 2023, she had taken GLP-1 medication to manage her weight. She emphasized that she’s stopped shaming herself and views her current approach as a management tool rather than a restriction.

In her ongoing journey toward better health, Winfrey has also eliminated alcohol from her life. “I had 17 shots one night,” she recalled, but noted that she hasn’t had a drink in years and no longer feels the desire to do so.

Looking ahead, she’s committed to a diverse fitness routine, which includes hiking several miles daily alongside running and strength training. Winfrey emphasized the support she receives from her partner, Stedman Graham, throughout her body image journey, sharing how instrumental he has been in her efforts.
