Oracle launches AI agents for salespeople, joining Microsoft, Google

Oracle on Tuesday released a new set of artificial intelligence agents to assist salespeople with a variety of customer-facing tasks.

US-based Oracle is one of the leading technology companies focused on developing virtual assistants that can tackle repetitive or difficult tasks more autonomously.

Microsoft and Alphabet's Google are also putting agents at the center of their AI strategies.

Unlike the typical virtual assistants used by consumers, Oracle's agents are designed to handle specific tasks.

Salespeople need to update internal records of deal progress every time they meet with a customer, and agents can work on that documentation.

However, some tasks are more complex.

A single “customer intelligence” agent can pull records from across Oracle's business software categories and create reports for sales teams negotiating deals, even if those records are in different languages.

For example, the system could indicate to a U.S.-based sales team that a repeat customer has not received a package on time in another country. This information may be useful when proposing renewal concessions.

“Our customers are often brands operating in industries you've never heard of. They move rocks, they produce machines. They're usually global,” says Oracle's senior Vice President Rob Pinkerton said in an interview. “The ability to help sellers pull (data) together in all the languages they need to be aware of is extremely useful.”

Oracle said the feature will be available starting Tuesday.

The company does not charge additional fees for new agents.

Oracle stock rose 6% on Tuesday.
