Nicki Minaj Criticizes Governor Gavin Newsom on Social Media
On Friday, rapper and singer Nicki Minaj took to social media, targeting California Governor Gavin Newsom, asserting that his political ambitions to become U.S. President are finished. Her criticisms stem from recent comments he made during a podcast with the New York Times.
As the 40th governor of California, Newsom has openly championed progressive values, often receiving both applause and backlash. In a recent episode of The Ezra Klein Show, he expressed his views on “transgender women” participating in women’s sports, maintaining that biological males, even on estrogen, might have an unfair advantage.
However, while emphasizing his long-standing dedication to LGBTQ+ issues, he tried to reassure Democratic voters that he remains a progressive figure. “It comes from my heart, not just my head. It wasn’t a political evolution,” he stated, mentioning his connections to the community. He noted, “No governor has signed more pro-trans legislation than I have.”
Newsom recently stirred controversy when he agreed with the notion that it’s “deeply unfair” for biological males identifying as females to compete in women’s sports during a podcast episode from March.
In response, Minaj, who has shown support for the Trump administration regarding the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, unleashed her opinions in a series of posts on X. She ridiculed Newsom’s approach, declaring his political career over.
“Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids,” she quipped. “Normal adults wake up and think about wanting healthy, safe, happy kids. Not Gav. The Gav Nots. GavOUT.”
Adding humor to her tirade, Minaj compared Newsom to a character from horror films, suggesting he gets advantages in politics due to his looks and describing his presidential aspirations as obsolete.
“Gavin is the cute boy who got everything handed to him because of how cute & sexy he is. He thinks he’s Tom Cruise, but his next mission is impossible. He should get another leading role,” she wrote.
She concluded her comments by essentially saying it was time for him to step aside from politics, advocating for him to enjoy life instead.
“Oh Gavvy pooh, it only gets worse from here for you. It’s the end of the road for you, my love. Get on the nearest jet ski and let that beautiful hair blow in the wind. It will make you happier than this race you will not win. Enjoy life. Peace.”
After her posts, one user on X shared a humorous GIF that caught Minaj’s attention. The following day, she shared a post favoring JD Vance, stating, “The Vance > The Gav Nots.”
In a playful nod, Vance remarked, “Nicki > Cardi,” referencing another famous rapper, Cardi B, who had openly supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Their long-standing rivalry adds an extra layer to this ongoing narrative in hip-hop and pop culture.
