Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield expressed concerns on Monday regarding President Trump’s actions, suggesting they aim to bolster his command similar to a powerful leader in another nation.
Rayfield stated, “He’s weaponizing the Department of Justice and normalizing military use.” He elaborated during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Weeknight Nights,” criticizing Trump’s talk of manipulating elections for his own benefit and undermining the free press. “This isn’t America,” he insisted.
In his discussion with co-host Alicia Menendez, Rayfield tackled the issue of Trump using his presidential powers against political adversaries.
Rayfield commented, “This is a president who thrives on fear. The members of his party, they’re scared to challenge him. This is exactly what he’s doing: weaponizing the Department of Justice against his detractors. This is not America.”
He warned that Americans must address serious issues rather than allow them to simmer unchallenged, stating, “We need to raise our voices and contest these topics as frequently as we can.”
A federal judge intervened on Sunday, halting Trump from deploying the National Guard to Oregon temporarily, following Rayfield’s announcement about potential legal action against the administration over sending state guard resources to Oregon.
US District Judge Karin Imargat issued temporary restraining orders affecting the president’s actions, which were pointed out in comments made by Gavin Newsom, the California Governor, who referred to the ruling as a significant upholding of American democracy. “Donald Trump has attempted to use our military for his political agenda,” he stated at a press conference.
Additionally, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller criticized the court’s decision on a social platform, labeling it “one of the most egregious violations of the constitutional order we have ever seen.”
