ROSEBURG, Oregon (AP) — The University of Oregon softball team travelling from the game was involved in the crash of two vehicles that killed an athlete and a coach, authorities said Saturday.
The pickup driver crossed the center line and crashed directly from the front on a bus carrying 10 members of the Umpqua Community College team on Friday night, Oregon State Police said.

The team was traveling from the game on Coos Bay, the department said in a post on Social Platform X.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our student-athletes and one of our coaches lost their lives in the accident,” he said. “The heart of UCC is invading this news and we ask our community to help families and all of our people influence their thoughts and prayers.”
The other eight residents of the bus were “moderate to serious injuries and were provided with emergency medical services,” police said. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado truck was also seriously injured and was taken to an emergency medical center.
“Driving impaired driving is considered a major cause of crashes,” police said, and a criminal investigation was ongoing.
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek said in a statement on X that her “heartbreaking” for the school’s family that “hearts are caught up in tragedy.” “Oregon is here for you in your grief and loss,” she said.
