Talk about man’s best friend.
A loyal dog ran four miles through the Oregon wilderness to find help for his injured owner, who fell off a cliff and into a ravine and was left stranded overnight.
Brandon Garrett’s dog arrived at a Baker County campground around 9:30 a.m. Monday and alerted concerned family members to the problem, the county sheriff said.
They quickly dispatched a search party and found his truck lying on its side on the bank of a creek, several hundred feet off a cliff beside the road.
Another of Garrett’s four dogs was keeping watch over the truck, officials said.
The family called for rescue teams as they were unable to reach the crash site on their own.
“Sheriff Ash arrived on scene and found the vehicle along with the dog in a steep, brushy ravine. As he was searching for an entrance to the creek he heard cries for help.” This was announced by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said Garrett managed to crawl about 100 yards from the vehicle after it failed to negotiate a curve and went down an embankment.
Too injured to climb the steep cliffs on his own, Garrett was forced to spend the night in a thickly forested ravine while his faithful furry friend found help.
Rescuers used a “highline rope system” to safely hoist Garrett out of the ravine and then into a helicopter to be rushed to a local hospital.
His condition is unknown, but officials confirmed that all four of his dogs survived the horrific incident.
