Oregon Newlywed Nurse Found Dead, Neighbor Accused of Murder

A newly married cardiac nurse was found dead in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday and a neighbor has been charged with murder.

When 32-year-old Melissa Jubanet, who worked at St. Vincent Hospital, failed to show up for work Wednesday, her family became deeply concerned and called Beaverton Police to check on her safety. New York Post Reported Sunday.

When officers arrived at the apartment, apartment building staff spoke with them and a search for the missing woman began, but authorities were unable to find her at the apartment in the Five Oaks neighborhood.

Jubanet married Brian Lantero in Hawaii on Aug. 24, but her husband said he last heard from her around 6 a.m. on the day she was supposed to leave for work.

In a social media post, the Beaverton Police Department detail The Jubanese incident and the search:

Officers and family members tried to contact Melissa throughout the day but were unable to reach her as her cell phone appeared to be turned off, and a search of her bank and credit card records did not provide any new information as to her whereabouts.

On September 4th at 3:12pm, Melissa was entered into a national police database as a missing person.

“After an extensive investigation, it was determined that one of Melissa's neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Jonathan Shubert of Beaverton, was involved in her disappearance. Shubert was subsequently arrested tonight and charged with Melissa's murder. Melissa Juban's body has been recovered.”

Jubané's mother-in-law, Imelda Lantelo; said “I miss her so much. I'm so happy Brian got to meet her. I told Brian, 'Please always love her,' and they were so happy,” Conn said.

As of Sunday afternoon, the GoFundMe page Created The fundraiser, to help the young woman's family, raised $56,279 of its $50,000 goal.

“Melissa was not only a loving daughter, friend and community member, but also a dedicated nurse who cared deeply for her family, friends and patients. She touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion and selflessness,” the page read.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
