Oregon State’s unbelievable Pick-6 against Purdue was a matter of luck and skill

Saturday night against Purdue Oregon The first points came on a pick-six by the Beavers.

That in itself isn't all that remarkable, because even scoring plays happen all too often in college football on Saturday, but how Oregon State's Zacchae Saez pulled off this pick-six has to be seen to be believed.

Purdue started its second drive from its own 27-yard line, and on first down, the Boilermarks tried to throw the ball in the air. Quarterback Hudson Card dropped into the pocket, quickly looked up the field, then threw a swing route to running back Reggie Love III, who ran a route to the right side of the formation.

Card threw the ball a little low, off Love's left foot and into the arms of Saez, who was rushing in from the edge of the goal.

In sports, sometimes luck is better than skill, but to be fair, Sáez had both on this play. The right tackle tries to make a cut block on Sáez on the edge, but the Oregon State defender is athletic enough to avoid the cut block and stay on balance.

He had the sense to catch the ball off Love's foot and dive into the end zone for a spectacular pick-six.

I can't say I've seen this before.
