The Yankees-Orioles drama continued.
A day after Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres were hit by their American League rivals, Baltimore shortstop Gunnar Henderson was hit in the front shoulder by Yankees relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez in the seventh inning of the Orioles’ 7-6, 10-game extra-inning win Wednesday night in the Bronx.
MASN announcers Kevin Brown and Brett Hollander both believe a warning should have been issued, especially given what happened between the two teams yesterday, especially when Henderson was hit by a pitch high and inside from Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes.
“It’s exactly the top and middle [home plate umpire] “Coach Gabe Morales has to warn them now. We’re all waiting for that,” Hollander said as Henderson walked to first base.
Brown said Henderson had handled everything that had happened in the past two games with great composure.
“Gunnar Henderson handled it very maturely yesterday, and he’s still handling it very maturely, whatever this was,” Brown said. “Gabe Morales didn’t warn either bench. I’m very surprised by that.”
Brown then went on to expand on the Yankees’ chances and why they Might be The young infielder was hit, and the play-by-play announcer said he wasn’t 100% sure if the Bronx Bombers did it on purpose, but said only that if they did, it was a total disgrace.
“If the Yankees were down by three runs and they were going to do something like this, [runs] “The bottom of the seventh inning, when the bases are clear, is when they might do that. And if they did that and intentionally spat on Gunnar Henderson, frankly they should be ashamed.”
This comes after Orioles starting pitcher Dillon Tate said early Wednesday morning that the Yankees were “rightly upset” that Judge was hit and injured his hand.
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said he didn’t want to see players from either team get hit.
“I think getting hit is unfortunately the worst part of the game and I don’t think anybody wants to see you get hit,” Hyde said before the overtime win. “I don’t want to see their guy get hit and I don’t want to see our guy get hit.”
“When something like this happens, it’s probably a bit of a big deal because it’s happening in New York, but we just don’t want it to happen.”
Henderson finished the game with one hit and two runs scored in four at-bats.
