Baltimore Orioles Part Ways with Manager Brandon Hyde
The Baltimore Orioles have decided to part ways with manager Brandon Hyde following a disappointing start to the 2025 season. After competing for the American League East title last year, the team has stumbled out of the gate.
In their latest game, the Orioles lost 4-3 to the Washington Nationals, bringing their record to 15-28 and placing them at the bottom of the AL East standings.
Mike Elias, the executive vice president and general manager, accepted responsibility for the team’s poor performance, stating, “As the head of the baseball business, it’s ultimately my fault.” He mentioned that difficult changes are necessary to pave the way for future success.
Elias expressed his gratitude toward Hyde, recognizing his hard work and the impact he had in returning the team to playoff contention, particularly after challenging seasons in 2019 and 2021 where the Orioles recorded 54-108 and 52-110 records respectively.
In his seven years with the franchise, Hyde led the team to notable successes, including a 101-61 record in 2023 and a 91-71 record in 2024. However, they faced early exits in both seasons’ playoff series.
David Rubenstein, the team’s owner, commended Hyde’s leadership and contributions, saying, “Brandon is someone I’ve come to deeply admire.” However, he acknowledged the necessity for change, emphasizing that this moment in the organization called for a different direction.
As the Orioles move forward, Tony Mansolino, the first base coach, has been named interim manager.
