Oscar Mayer Wienermobile involved in rollover crash on busy Chicago-area highway

An Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was involved in a crash and overturned on a busy highway near Chicago Monday morning.

Illinois State Police told Fox News Digital the crash happened just after 11 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway in Elmhurst.

Police said the Wienermobile struck a Hyundai sedan that was also traveling north, causing the driver to lose control and overswerve, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The right lane of northbound traffic was closed for investigation into the traffic accident, with all lanes reopening about an hour later, police said.

“We are pleased that all involved are safe and no one was injured. We offer our ongoing support to the Hot Doggers and appreciate the support we’ve received from local authorities. Safety on our roads is a top priority for us,” an Oscar Mayer brand spokesperson told Fox 32.

No further details about the accident are available at this time, and police said there have been no reports of injuries.

According to the company’s website, the Wienermobile tours year-round.

The company’s brand ambassadors drive the Wienermobile across America.

“At any given time, we have six different hot dogs on wheels rolling across the country. Use this map to find the location of your nearest WIENERMOBILE!” the company’s website says.

Oscar Mayer said its drivers drive and maintain one of six Wienermobiles, logging an average of 20,000 miles, visiting more than 20 states throughout the year and distributing 250,000 Wiener whistles, as well as creating content for the company’s social media channels.

According to the tracker, the Wienermobile’s next stop is scheduled for Grand Rapids, Michigan, from July 23-25.
