On Wednesday's “NewsNation Now” broadcast, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) said he doesn't think flat tariffs are a good idea, but that “there are Law enforcement cooperation is important.” law enforcement [is] Things aren't going well right now. That has to change. ”
“I think the flat tariffs that were imposed on the first day of the Trump administration are going to be a flat tax on Americans,” Krishnamoorthi said. “There's a misconception somewhere that these tariffs are punishments against other countries. In fact, taxes on Americans and prices will rise, followed by retaliatory tariffs that will hurt farmers and other exporters. It will divide friends, allies and even partners.”
He added: “I think the problem is that if tariffs are imposed from day one, they are no longer a threat.” Things are just too expensive for Americans. So I think we have to do more on the border and we have to do more to stop fentanyl. For example, I think law enforcement cooperation between us and the non-corrupt parts of Mexican law enforcement is important. [is] Things aren't going well right now. That has to change. However, I think imposing tariffs across the board could be counterproductive. ”
