“I'm not done with public service. I want to go back to Congress,” he said at the time. “I didn't say today. I didn't say tomorrow.”

“There are a lot of things that need to be addressed first,” Santos added. “I think everyone knows that I have a desire to earn back the trust of the American people and get there, because I will continue to expose and root out corruption in the federal government.”

Santos currently faces 23 charges, including inflating campaign finance reports and misleading donors.

As of Monday, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York revealed that Santos is “currently engaged” in a plea agreement. The former lawmaker hinted that a plea deal was not “off the table.”
