Disturbing Incident at New York Soccer Field
Parents were understandably upset, and children were terrified when a group of intoxicated individuals reportedly caused chaos at a soccer field in New York’s Meatpacking District.
One individual donned a bizarre mask, while another set benches on fire. Shockingly, one man undressed and yelled during an unprovoked outburst—this all unfolded alarmingly close to the children, as reported by the New York Post.
Witnesses at the Gansevoort Peninsula field in Hudson River Park, where the incident occurred last week, noted that one man shouted, “Everyone wants to party, but no one wants to pay for party!” directed at the children and their parents.
A man reported to be wearing a grotesque mask with a dangling appendage for a nose “stripped and screamed for no apparent reason” at 9 a.m. on a Wednesday. When he removed his mask, onlookers were reportedly even more disturbed by his face, which was full of piercings and had a ring between his eyes, along with tiny metal studs surrounding his mouth, brows, and eyes.
His mask included another element—a balaclava-type headpiece with an exaggerated middle finger and phrases like “sex,” “f–k you,” and “Mr. Anger” written on it.
According to local residents, the group had been drinking at a nearby gas station on 8th Avenue before heading to the park, where they were known to disturb girls as young as five and threaten park workers.
Jason Fernández expressed deep concern to the Post, noting his daughter was practicing on the field with the Gotham Girls Football Club. “Nothing is being done,” he lamented. “When it comes to the kids, something has to happen. Today, this guy in the mask started waving at the girls. I came back because he gave me a weird feeling.”
Fernández also directed his frustration toward New York’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, while also acknowledging that the men involved might be struggling with homelessness and alcoholism. “These men need help, but obviously they’re not getting it and because of that everyone else has to suffer,” he stated. “Mamdani is terrible, absolutely terrible.”
Reports indicate that at least two members of the group engaged in sexual acts on a nearby bench, shocking witnesses in broad daylight. A dog walker, Geronimo Silva, described the scene, “The girl was on the top of the guy. It was unbelievable, like 4 o’clock in the afternoon. This city is becoming worse.”
Another individual, known among parents as “Fire Bug,” reportedly set benches on fire while the children were practicing, with remnants of charred wood still visible.
Since the opening of the Gansevoort Peninsula in 2023—a $73 million recreational space featuring a sports field and beach—homeless individuals have increasingly turned it into their personal space, taking advantage of its facilities. Prior encampments had been cleared out last summer, yet local reports suggest ongoing disturbing behavior.
Despite claims from the New York Police Department that this summer has seen no complaints or incidents, parents and others who use the field portray a more unsettling reality. They reported vagrants regularly taking naked sponge baths in park restrooms while children were present.
