An out-of-town man was found stabbed to death outside a Bay Ridge bar early Sunday morning, with neighbors accusing him of being “always crazy.”
Police said the victim, a 37-year-old from Pennsylvania but whose identity has not been released pending notification of his family, was stabbed with a knife around 2:50 a.m. outside a Catch-22 on Third Avenue in Brooklyn. It is said that
Officers found the victim with injuries to his torso and rushed him to New York University Langone, but he did not make it in time, authorities said.
Police have not made any arrests, a department official said.
Footage from a nearby surveillance camera showed the victim on all fours after being stabbed, as bystanders slowly gathered around him.
On Sunday morning, a bloody handprint was pressed into the concrete, right next to a pool of the victim’s blood.
One of the victim’s friends, who had just been interviewed by police outside the bar on Sunday, would only say that the killing was “not random.”
“No, it wasn’t,” he said.
Neighbors say the bar has a reputation for being rowdy.
“It’s always crazy here and there’s always arguments outside,” a female resident told the Post on Sunday.
Several other local residents echoed the woman’s remarks, shouting at the building that the city “must shut this place down.”
Moses Al-Hussaini, manager of the M&S minimarket across the street, told the Post that he came outside when he saw a police constable pull up with his lights flashing.
“The man was dead on the ground,” he said. “The police were all around him and he was lying in the back of the car. He was completely silent. No one said anything. The man on the ground didn’t make any noise. ”
Al-Hussaini, 39, said he has seen many problems at bars during the pandemic, including “crowds fighting in those places.”
“It was crazy very often, but it’s under control now,” he said. “The owners take this issue very seriously, which is why I’m shocked to see this now.”
A bartender at the Sunday joint declined to comment to the Post.
A neighbor said: “There was some kind of private party going on there last night.
“It was loud and crazy outside,” she continued. “I took her daughter and passed as quickly as I could. There were a lot of people outside and it was dangerous out there.”
