House Speaker Comments on Medicaid and Fraud

During an appearance on CNN’s “Union Status,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated that there are over 1.4 million undocumented individuals enrolled in Medicaid.

He emphasized, “We are not cutting Medicaid with this package. There’s a lot of misinformation about this.” Johnson further explained that the Americans impacted by this situation are those involved in efforts to combat fraud, waste, and abuse within the system. He noted, “What does that mean? Resources for those who need it most.”

He also pointed out the presence of 4.8 million healthy individuals, particularly young men, receiving Medicaid without being employed. “They’re choosing not to work as much as they could. It’s like they’re gaming the system,” he remarked. He argued that eliminating such abuses would free up essential resources for those truly in need.
