Turning Point USA Event at University of Minnesota
Recently, the University of Minnesota auditorium was packed for the first Turning Point USA event following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This tragic event occurred after Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on September 10th, according to MPR News.
In his opening remarks, Knowles praised Kirk, stating, “Charlie achieved more in 31 years than most could accomplish in many lives.” He added that while Kirk’s political accomplishments were significant, he wanted to be remembered for his faith.
The audience engaged with Knowles, asking questions about women’s suffrage and media bias, as reported by MPR News. Turning Point USA shared a video on X featuring attendees chanting “Charlie! Charlie!”
Backlash Against Conservative Activists
In the wake of Kirk’s murder, a wave of criticism aimed at conservative activists reignited on campus. A line formed well before the event began, indicating strong interest among students.
“Charlie inspired me to be confident in my beliefs,” shared high school senior Keene Pfeiffer outside the auditorium. “He started Turning Point USA at just 18.” I think that’s pretty remarkable, to be honest.
While the atmosphere was charged, approximately 50 protesters gathered nearby, holding signs with messages like “No to hatred.” Protester Trey Blumley emphasized that while they condemn the actions that led to Kirk’s death, they also disapprove of his ideas during his life.
The “American Comeback Tour” launched at Utah Valley University, shortly before Kirk’s tragic end, and continued on to Colorado State University for another event afterward.
Upcoming Stops on the Tour
The next stop for this tour is slated for Wednesday at Virginia Tech, with notable speakers including Virginia Governor Glen Youngkin. It seems there’s a lot of momentum behind this initiative, which aims to promote free speech across college campuses, despite the controversies surrounding it.
