Over 600 people taken into custody in operation against Sinaloa cartel by the DEA

600+ arrested in DEA operation targeting Sinaloa cartel

DEA Action Against Sinaloan Drug Cartel

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has taken significant action by arresting over 600 individuals believed to be connected to the violent Sinaloan drug cartel. This five-day operation occurred at the end of August and highlights a concerted push against cartel activities.

In addition to the arrests, agents confiscated 420 firearms and seized nearly $13 million in cash and other assets. The operation also included the capture of a substantial drug shipment, containing over 714,000 counterfeit medications, along with 926 pounds of fentanyl, 4,870 pounds of methamphetamine, 16,466 pounds of cocaine, and 36.5 pounds of heroin.

DEA Administrator Terrance Cole commented on the operation, stating, “These results illustrate the full weight of the DEA’s commitment to protecting Americans.” He emphasized that every drug seized, dollar stripped from the cartel, and arrest made contributes to saving lives and safeguarding communities.

He further asserted that the DEA will not relent until the Sinaloa cartel is thoroughly dismantled.

This year, the Trump administration initiated a campaign targeting the Sinaloan cartel and several other Latin American gangs, including Tren de Aragua and MS-13, among others.

The Sinaloa cartel was co-founded by notorious drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Estimates suggest that thousands of Sinaloa members are currently active in at least 40 countries, primarily involved in the distribution of synthetic drugs.

“The Sinaloa cartel’s reach is extensive and alarming,” remarked Brian M. Clark, a special agent leading the DEA’s Los Angeles Field Division. He added that this merciless cartel seeks to infiltrate communities with poison, disregarding the suffering it causes.

The operation spanned 23 domestic divisions and seven international regions from August 25th to August 29th.

Reports indicate that the Pentagon was given permission last month to use military force against cartels designated as terrorist organizations.
