Last Meal Request for Death Row Inmate in Georgia
A death row inmate in Georgia has made an unusual request for his final meal—a calorie-laden buffet that seems almost excessive. Stacey Humphries, 52, is set to face execution by lethal injection next Wednesday.
Officials revealed that Humphries requested a staggering array of foods before his fate is sealed. His meal choices included barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, a bacon double cheeseburger, French fries, coleslaw, cornbread, buffalo wings, a meat lover’s pan pizza, and vanilla ice cream, all washed down with two glasses of lemon-lime soda.
Measuring around 6-foot-3 and weighing about 305 pounds, Humphries is categorized as clinically obese, according to the CDC’s BMI calculator.
Humphries was sentenced to death in 2003 after he cornered and killed two real estate employees, Cynthia Williams, 33, and Lori Brown, 21, in his business office.
Reports indicate that he forced the women to remove their clothing and demanded their bank PINs before shooting them execution-style. Disturbingly, he tied Williams’ underwear tightly around her neck, leaving visible marks discovered when her body was found.
After the murders, Humphries and his accomplices withdrew thousands of dollars from the victims’ bank accounts but were ultimately apprehended following a high-speed chase in Wisconsin. At the time of his arrest, Humphries claimed he had no memory of the murders, yet he admitted to fleeing because he knew he had done something terrible.
“I know that name as well as I know my own name,” Humphries reportedly said during police questioning.
Attempts by his lawyers to halt the execution were denied by a federal judge, and the Supreme Court previously rejected a request to appeal his case.
This execution will mark not only the first in Georgia this year, but also the 55th lethal injection in the state’s history. Currently, thirty-two men and one woman remain on death row in Georgia, according to state corrections officials.
