“He was a natural and really enjoyed performing in front of the camera.”

On set, Halperin noted that Gaviria, who was blinded in one eye and lost 60 percent of his hearing in 1993 by a letter bomb, appeared light years away from his illegal past.

“He seemed like a nice guy,” I said with a shrug.

“Many of these cartel guys regret that what they did in the past was a crime because so many innocent people died. “That’s why they break off deals and plea deals,” he said.

“You don’t go to KFC and ask for the recipe,” he wisely said.

“All I can say is that it was orchestrated by former cartel members that he knew,” Halperin told the Sun.

“Let me be clear, he was willing to show up. It’s a far cry from where Borat successfully captured Rudy Giuliani using hidden cameras, and we worked with him. “I knew I was going to be in it,” he joked.

Halperin hopes the film will bring “more laughter to the world.”

“With ‘Griselda’ coming out now, it’s perfect timing to release this movie,” he said, referring to Sofia Vergara’s Netflix series.

“When I showed it to cartel people, they celebrated the culture of the cartel, the language they use, and how it captures the insanity of cartel life,” Halperin told the magazine. .

“Interestingly, the cartel guys told me that the conspiracy was true because many of the bosses had children all over the world,” he added.

Halperin also dismissed concerns that the film could upset old allies of Pablo Escobar, who was killed in a gunfight in 1993.

“This is satire and everyone will see it,” he said.
