Packers are said to have picked up Trevon Diggs off waivers

Trevon Diggs Waived by Cowboys, Reportedly to Join Packers

Former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs was released on Tuesday, but it seems the 27-year-old has quickly found a new opportunity.

Reports indicate that the Green Bay Packers are interested in bringing Diggs on board to strengthen their secondary as they head into the playoffs. They have already clinched the No. 7 seed in the NFC, regardless of what happens in their upcoming Week 18 game.

Diggs has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performance in recent years, and there was a reported altercation with the Cowboys on Christmas Day. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer apparently turned down Diggs’ request to stay in Maryland after the game against the Washington Commanders.

Interestingly, Diggs has family in the area and had hoped to spend the holidays with them. He’s Stefon’s younger brother, whose recent legal troubles have also drawn attention.

Just a few years back, Diggs seemed poised to be a mainstay in the Cowboys’ secondary. In 2021, he led the NFL with 11 interceptions and earned first-team All-Pro honors. The following year, he made the Pro Bowl for the second year in a row, snagging three interceptions.

He had signed a hefty five-year, $97 million contract extension at the beginning of 2023 training camp. However, since then, he hasn’t been very available. Although he played 16 and 17 games in 2021 and 2022, respectively, his participation fell to just two games in 2023 due to an ACL tear he suffered in practice.

In 2024, Diggs was back on the field for 11 games but struggled to regain his previous form and was placed on injured reserve for additional knee surgery. In 2025, he spent more time on IR due to issues with his knee and a concussion from a home accident, playing only eight games. That year, he recorded 25 total tackles but no interceptions.

Now with the Packers, they will have to pay Diggs a base salary of $472,000, plus an extra $58,823 if he becomes active for Week 18. It’s worth noting that there is no guaranteed money in his contract beyond this season.

The Packers, currently at 9-6-1, are set to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon.
