Zach Tom Signs Extension with Packers

Zach Tom, the right tackle for the Green Bay Packers, has secured a four-year contract extension worth $88 million. Reportedly, this deal includes the largest signing bonus ever offered to an offensive lineman.

This agreement was reached right before veteran players were set to report for training camp, which was quite timely.

While there were some worries about him missing out on offseason activities, the 26-year-old player had already planned to participate in OTAs and was preparing for training camp ahead of signing the contract.

Tom mentioned during OTAs in early June that he preferred to focus on the team rather than his contract situation. He said, “I don’t think it’s helpful to sit down. I try not to worry about the situation of the contract; I try to do my best for the team.” His perspective is interesting because, well, many would worry about such financial matters.

Now, the dialogue surrounding his extension has sparked quite a bit of interest.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 304 pounds, Tom is regarded as one of the top offensive linemen in the NFL. He plays a crucial role as a protector for quarterback Jordan Love.

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tom has been a starter for all 17 games in the past two seasons. He finished third among tackles, trailing only Penei Sewell and Lane Johnson of the Eagles.

His collegiate career took place at Wake Forest, and he was selected by the Packers as their fourth pick in the 2022 draft.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur highlighted Tom’s versatility during a press conference in June, suggesting that he could play any position on the offensive line. “I think his versatility is what makes him special,” LaFleur remarked. “Not many can play all five positions, but he’s a very intelligent football player who has been consistent in recent seasons.”
