Harrington and Maltbie in Heated Exchange During US Senior Open

Padraig Harrington found himself in a bit of a situation on Friday, alongside NBC analysts and former PGA golfer Roger Maltbie.

This incident unfolded midway through the US Senior Open, where it seemed like Harrington was, well, somewhat confrontational with Maltbie.

“We don’t typically get into the stands on a golf course or see spectators searching for a golf ball,” Harrington stated in the video.

The US Senior Open footage shows Harrington interacting with NBC Oncourse Analyst Roger Maltbie. Initially, Harrington appeared tied up but seemed dissatisfied with Maltbie’s location. Not that I had anything specific to add.

“That’s a tough position to take,” Maltbie responded. The two continued their back-and-forth, with Harrington asserting, “You’ve been playing golf for your whole life; you get it.”

At one point, Maltbie counters, “I’m not a player.” Maltbie, now 73, had a career on the PGA Tour lasting over 20 years, during which he won five tournaments in 1991 before transitioning into broadcasting.

As the exchange escalated, Harrington’s caddy, Ronan Flood, attempted to diffuse the situation without much success.

After a brief period of levity, Harrington ended the exchange and walked away.

Heading into Saturday, Harrington, who is 53, was tied with partner Stewart Cink, along with two others, while also trailing Australian golfer Mark Hensby by six strokes.

“He’ll probably outdrive me,” Harrington said about Cink on Friday. “But I know enough about his game to understand what’s happening. He’s definitely the partner I’d want to play with.”

This marked Cink’s debut at the US Senior Open, where he impressively hit all 18 greens in regulation on Friday.

“I really don’t want to downplay this course, but that’s just how it is,” commented Cink, who is 52.
