Paige Bueckers Impresses in Rookie Season

National Champion, top overall draft pick, and now an All-Star Starter—Paige Bueckers has already accomplished a great deal in her short time in the WNBA. The Dallas Wings rookie is not just making waves from a newcomer’s perspective; she’s achieving league-wide milestones that highlight her impressive basketball skills, even this early in her career.

This week, the Wings announced that Bueckers is the only player this season to rank in the top 10 for points, assists, and steals per game. She’s averaging 18.2 points (8th in the league), 5.5 assists (8th), and 1.9 steals (3rd) so far in 2025.

“Top 10 like she’s in a sports center,” read a tweet from the Dallas Wings. It’s impressive to see Bueckers making such a significant impact as a rookie.

A few months back, Bueckers led the league in both field goals and attempted field goals from 10-15 feet this season. Despite being in the 99th percentile for her mid-range attempts, she tops the league with 41 shots made from that range.

Now, Bueckers has her sights set on another milestone in her rookie season. In her 21 games played, she has faced some of the toughest competition. It’s remarkable considering it’s been a while since she scored in single digits during her college days.

She recorded a career-high of 35 points against the Phoenix Mercury in June, even though the Wings lost that game. Still, the team showed noticeable improvement in their on-court chemistry, demonstrating they can compete effectively.

Currently, the Wings are sitting in 11th place in the league with an 8-19 record. However, they recently secured a notable victory over the defending champions. In a recent game, Dallas maintained a 30-point lead at one point. Although the Liberty made a strong push in the fourth quarter, Bueckers remained composed, calmly sinking two crucial free throws to secure the win.

In a 92-82 victory, Bueckers contributed 20 points, plus six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, achieving an impressive shooting percentage of 58.3% while committing just one turnover.

As of now, Bueckers leads all WNBA rookies in points (18.2), minutes played (34.4), field goals (6.8), and assists (5.5) per game. After earning Rookie of the Month honors in June, she’s poised to potentially win again in July.
