Paralympic Gold Medalist Paige Greco Passes Away at 28
Paige Greco, the Australian Paralympic cyclist who struck gold at the Tokyo Olympics, has sadly passed away at the age of 28. The news was announced by officials on Sunday.
The Australian Paralympic Committee and Cycling Australia shared that Greco “died at her home in Adelaide following a sudden medical incident.”
“Paige was everything to us,” her mother, Natalie Greco, expressed. “Her warmth, kindness, and determination were a daily source of joy and pride for our family. The sadness we feel from her passing will remain with us forever.”
“While we are heartbroken by her loss, we are so proud of who she was and how she represented Australia.”
Greco was born with cerebral palsy and made history by winning gold in the women’s C1-3 3,000m individual pursuit at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games, beating her own world record in the process. She also claimed bronze medals in both the road race and time trial events.
Cameron Murray, CEO of Paralympic Australia, remarked, “The grief felt across Paralympic Australia reflects the immense respect she garnered.” He noted her exceptional achievements but emphasized, more importantly, her remarkable character.
“Her kindness and quiet determination uplifted those around her,” he said. “She had a unique ability to make people feel accepted, and her impact will be felt for a long time.”
In addition to her Olympic success, Greco earned gold medals at the Track World Championships and the Road World Championships. Just recently, she competed at the 2025 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Ronse, Belgium, capturing another bronze medal.
