Pakistan Breaks Ceasefire Soon After It Starts, China’s Comments Draw Attention

Quick Lead

China has expressed its support for Pakistan amidst increasing tensions with India.

Pakistani Foreign Minister shared updates on regional issues during a call with his Chinese counterpart.

The timing of the announcement seemed noteworthy.

Shortly after a ceasefire was barely violated by Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir’s Prime Minister Omar Abdullah and Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sangavi observed the incident and took to social media. Meanwhile, China mentioned that Pakistan’s foreign minister indicated Beijing’s strong support for Islamabad. The timing of this release certainly raised some eyebrows.

Reportedly, during a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, China’s foreign minister reaffirmed support for “Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and people’s independence.” Following the discussion, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the details in a statement.

In this statement, Dar updated the Chinese official on the current regional situation and the recent military exchanges between India and Pakistan, particularly in the wake of the attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahargam area.

An Indian news agency reported that China’s foreign minister praised Pakistan’s restraint and responsible approach in these testing circumstances.

Reiterating their close relationship, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry noted that China referred to itself as Pakistan’s all-weather strategic cooperation partner and ironclad friend.

Additionally, Ishaq Dar also reached out to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss the ongoing regional situation.

Following the ceasefire violation, India issued its own statement expressing concern. It pointed out that there were multiple breaches of the understanding established between the Indian Military Operations Director and Pakistan earlier that night.

The military noted it had responded appropriately to these breaches and indicated serious concerns regarding the violations. They called on Pakistan to take necessary measures to address these incidents seriously, stating that they remain vigilant about the situation.
