U.S.-Iran Peace Agreement Signing Announced
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, recently shared that the signing ceremony for a newly negotiated peace agreement between the United States and Iran is scheduled to take place in Switzerland this Friday.
“I am happy to announce, following extensive discussions, that a peace agreement has been achieved between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Sharif posted on X on Sunday. “With this agreement, mediators will facilitate meetings throughout the week. These preliminary discussions will set the stage for technical talks and the formal signing,” he added.
On Sunday, President Donald Trump confirmed that the deal had been finalized, which includes lifting the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
“The agreement made on Friday will reopen the strait and allow oil to flow in and out of the region again for mine clearance purposes,” Trump remarked.
In a Monday interview on CBS Morning, Vice President J.D. Vance mentioned that the administration intends to release the full text of the agreement, which has yet to be made public, within the coming week. After the formal signing on Friday, Vance noted that technical discussions would proceed.
Reports from various media outlets have categorized the peace agreement mainly as a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with certain issues earmarked for resolution over the next two months.
