CNN Panel Erupts Over Controversial Video of Democratic Lawmakers

A CNN discussion got pretty heated on Thursday night when host Abby Phillippe and a liberal guest had a sharp back-and-forth with conservative radio host Ben Ferguson. The trigger? A video in which some Democratic lawmakers encouraged U.S. service members to refuse “illegal” orders.

During the debate, Ferguson claimed that the Democrats were suggesting military personnel disobey orders from President Donald Trump. This statement didn’t sit well with the more liberal panelists. They pushed back, with Phillip directly accusing Ferguson of misrepresenting the content of the video.

“You can’t just sit here and lie about the same video,” he told Ferguson. Phillip pointed out that the lawmakers never specifically told the military not to follow Trump’s commands.

CNN’s Debate Takes on Immigration

Six Democratic senators, including Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, appeared in the video released recently. They urged military and intelligence personnel to rely on their consciences and reject what they labeled as “illegal” orders.

In their statements, the senators remarked that the biggest threats to the Constitution come from domestic sources, particularly the Trump administration, which they accused of setting uniformed personnel against American citizens.

“Unlawful orders must be rejected,” they declared firmly.

President Trump interpreted the video as an act of rebellion against him, reacting on Truth Social with a post declaring, “Sedition, punishable by death!” Progressives immediately critiqued this, arguing that it resembled a death threat against the six lawmakers involved.

Backlash from Trump and Republican Defenses

During the CNN panel, Ferguson dismissed the video as “ridiculous,” claiming it was an attempt by the Democratic Party to incite mutiny against the president. His comment created quite a stir, with other panelists, including political influencer Lee McGowan, insisting that the video did not advocate for such actions.

Phillip challenged Ferguson by asking, “Do you believe military personnel should follow illegal orders?” To which Ferguson responded, trying to articulate his point but being cut off repeatedly. At one moment, Phillip insisted, “That’s not literal,” when Ferguson tried to suggest the video was inciting disobedience.

Clarifications Amid Rising Tensions

As the conversation escalated, former Biden adviser Neera Tanden also confronted Ferguson, stating, “You’re not telling the truth.” The exchanges turned more intense, with Phillip firmly emphasizing that the video’s message was about not following illegal orders, which could precede a military tribunal.

Phillip’s approach often involves fact-checking conservative viewpoints, as noted in a previous interview where she indicated that part of her role is to ensure misinformation is addressed promptly.

In response to Phillip’s comments, the White House released a clip from the press secretary, who remarked that some members of Congress conspired to create messages urging military personnel to disobey the president’s lawful orders. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the military’s chain of command, warning that breaking it could lead to chaos and loss of life.
