Panelist Silences Ex-MSNBC Host's Criticism of the SAVE Act with a Single Sentence

On Thursday, financial correspondent Lydia Moynihan from the New York Post interrupted former MSNBC host Tiffany Cross during a discussion about the SAVE Act, highlighting that Democrats struggle to define what it means to be a woman.

The House of Representatives passed the SAVE America Act on Wednesday, which mandates proof of citizenship and a photo ID for voting, by a narrow margin of 216-213. This bill is now headed to the Senate, where it’s likely to face significant challenges due to unified Democratic opposition. During a debate on the bill, Cross confronted former New York City Republican Rep. Joe Borelli, suggesting that married women often find it challenging to verify their identities.

“I don’t think you fully grasp the issue,” she told Borelli, who previously delivered controversial remarks on conservatives during his MSNBC show. He replied confidently, “I absolutely do.”

Cross insisted, “You’re bringing up voter ID, which isn’t accurate. We’re focusing on the SAVE Act,” while Borelli pointed out that those not eligible to vote under the new act could still cast votes by affidavit, as permitted by law.

On February 3, CNN data reporter Harry Enten claimed that support for voter ID is notably strong among Black voters and Democrats, with over 70% backing the initiative. After some back-and-forth dialogue, Cross argued that many Americans wouldn’t have the necessary documents to vote under the SAVE Act.

When Cross stated that “less than half of Americans have the knowledge necessary to comply with the SAVE Act,” Borelli acknowledged, “That’s a concern. We need to address it.”

“That’s definitely an issue. You’re spot on. Considering married women, we discussed it earlier—if their last name changes after marriage,” Cross said, but Moynihan interrupted with, “Democrats can’t even define what a woman is.”

Cross was visibly frustrated with Moynihan’s comment, stating, “Let me finish my thoughts. In closing,” while Moynihan added, “They are now open to listening to their concerns.”

Cross urged, “We’re discussing transgender individuals now. This is absurd. Please allow me to complete my point with some professionalism,” drawing an intervention from host Abby Phillippe.

Historically, some Democrats have hesitated to define “woman.” During her confirmation hearing in March 2022, U.S. Associate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson declined to define the term when asked by Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn. “Can I provide a definition? No, I can’t,” Jackson replied, adding, “Not in this context. I’m not a biologist.”

In the Supreme Court case, State of West Virginia vs. BPJ, Jackson questioned Michael Ray Williams from the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office about the meaning of “girl” in relation to laws barring biological males from women’s sports.

Of the 50 Democratic Senators interviewed by the Daily Caller in 2022, none could articulate a definition for “woman.” In a May 2025 episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, activist Clementine Ford described a woman as “someone who, at least once in her life, has felt threatened by men.”
