Alexander Barkov Reflects on Stanley Cup Win and Future Challenges

After securing his first Stanley Cup in 2024, Florida Panthers captain Alexander Barkov found it tough to get back on the ice. He mentioned in a recent chat that achieving his biggest dream felt overwhelming. “When I thought, ‘Okay, it’s time to start training again,’ it was really, really hard,” he said.

However, he soon remembered that lifting the Cup was an unmatched joy in hockey, which helped refocus his mindset.

Now, the Panthers have an opportunity to achieve something remarkable, as they aim for a third consecutive Stanley Cup—a feat not seen since the early 1980s. Barkov has already begun to think about what next season holds. “I enjoyed the season, experienced the highs and lows, and after writing another chapter, it all came together. It wasn’t easy—mentally, it was a tough journey,” he shared.

His partnership with Celsius may have provided a boost during the grueling season, with its 200 milligrams of caffeine helping him through difficult days. Barkov noted that Celsius is popular in Finland, his home country, which adds a personal connection to the brand. “I’m trying to live like an athlete—eating right, sleeping well, recovering, and training properly. Celsius is perfect for me; it provides everything I need in one drink, and it tastes great,” he explained.

Barkov is now brainstorming new ways to celebrate with the Cup, humorously mentioning that the last celebration lasted a full 48 hours. One of his ideas is to pour Celsius into the trophy—a concept he even tried with his neighbor that morning.

But first, there’s a long season ahead with 82 games to play, followed by the postseason where they need to win another 16 games. “I feel better prepared now to keep improving,” Barkov said. After the thrill of last season’s victory, he’s excited to share the journey with his team again. Winning three times in a row would be extraordinary.

Though basking in the glow of recent success, Barkov’s thoughts are already on the future. “We just won, and while we’re celebrating now, I know next year holds the potential for even greater achievements, and that’s what motivates me,” he concluded.
