Paramount Responds to Mark Ruffalo’s Criticism
Paramount Pictures has fired back at actor Mark Ruffalo following his recent comments. Ruffalo characterized the studio’s executives, David and Larry Ellison, as “inhuman” and suggested they were behind harmful influences in the world.
On Friday, Ruffalo made these claims, provoking a strong reaction from Paramount. The studio released a statement expressing concerns about the use of antisemitic rhetoric during business disputes, stating that terms like “genocide” and “apartheid,” when applied to corporate matters, dilute the gravity of these significant issues. They emphasized their intolerance for any form of prejudice.
In their response, Paramount implied that Ruffalo’s remarks only serve to escalate tensions, reaffirming their commitment to creating inclusive content without discrimination.
Ruffalo had shared an old video featuring Safra Catz, a member of the Paramount board, discussing Oracle’s role in helping Israel amid conflict. Ruffalo described Ellison as a “classic oligarch” and warned against the planned merger of Paramount with Warner Bros. Discovery.
He further criticized Catz for her comments, claiming they demonstrated support for “genocide” related to the ongoing situation, which he argued was rooted in an oppressive system.
Interestingly, Ruffalo has not acknowledged the significant growth of Gaza’s population over recent years, which complicates claims of genocide.
After Paramount’s statement, Ruffalo expressed his outrage, calling the accusation of antisemitism “appalling and fundamentally dishonest.” He clarified that criticizing Israeli governmental actions should not be conflated with hostility towards Jewish people, asserting that his dialogue stems from political beliefs rather than prejudice.
Ruffalo remarked about the influence his Jewish friends and colleagues have had on his life and activism, aiming to distance his views from any anti-Jewish sentiment.
During his criticisms of the merger, he expressed concern that it would allow foreign interests to control significant media outlets like CNN and HBO, emphasizing that there has been insufficient transparency regarding these influences.
He called for a thorough national security review, arguing that without clear answers from regulators, the merger should not proceed.
Recently, Ruffalo has openly supported various left-leaning candidates in election cycles and expressed enthusiasm for the growth of socialist movements, recalling efforts from past years.
Despite reportedly earning a substantial income through his acting career, Ruffalo has frequently criticized wealth and advocated for higher taxes on affluent individuals. He has also championed progressive causes and opposed Republican policies vehemently.
