California Birthday Party Shooting Leaves Community in Mourning
A heartbroken father from California has shared his grief after losing his teenage son in a tragic shooting. The father described his 14-year-old son, Amari Peterson, as “the perfect child,” a sentiment that resonates deeply amid the surrounding sorrow.
On November 29, Amari was fatally shot when gunmen opened fire on a gathering of parents and children at a birthday party in Stockton, California. This horrific incident, believed to be linked to gang activity, resulted in the deaths of four people, including three children, and injured ten others.
“I wake up screaming and crying. All I see is my son gasping for air, trying to catch his breath,” Patrick Peterson, Amari’s father, shared with local media.
Details about the suspect remain under wraps, but authorities speculate that the target might have been local rapper MBNel. Tragically, instead of hitting him, the gunfire claimed the lives of Amari, two eight-year-old girls, and a 21-year-old man.
According to reports, MBNel and his wife sustained minor injuries during the chaos while attending the party. His father, Junior Donggon, confirmed this information.
“My son was the perfect kid. He was the perfect son,” Patrick expressed, clearly struggling with the weight of his loss.
The aftermath of the shooting left a chilling scene, with bloodstains scattered among children’s toys and shoes just behind the party venue. A garage-style door was riddled with bullet holes, marking the scene of violence.
One bullet struck a bystander and traveled through a nearby house, demonstrating the reckless nature of the attack. The surrounding community is still reeling from the violence, as MBNel and his family now stay in hiding following previous threats, including a drive-by shooting in 2020.
The young victims included eight-year-old Journey Rose Guerrero and her cousin, Maya Lupyan, who had just weeks before her ninth birthday. Their family mourned the innocence shattered too soon, wishing for a life filled with laughter and dreams instead of suffering.
21-year-old Susano Archuleta died tragically at the scene, with his sibling recalling the moment vividly, sharing how he held him as life slipped away.
The birthday girl’s mother, Patrice Williams, recounted hearing a noise reminiscent of a “balloon popping,” prompting her to drop to the ground in fear.
With the community in shock, Patrice shared her anguish: “He’s my daughter’s father. Both of my nieces are dead. My sister was actually shot. My cousin was shot. My son’s friend was shot. Three of my friends were shot. The father of my friend’s baby was shot.”
Local resident Brent Terrill described the chaos as a woman ran out of her car, screaming for her child, encapsulating the panic and pain felt that day.
